A revolution in human compassion is the only thing that can stop the current extinction crisis. With the proliferation and spread of humanity, nature is on a collision course with doom. Failure to act now will force wildlife out of its natural habitat and into a world behind bars. We will be left with more people living a marginal existence in places these animals once thrived.

We can take solace in our world of human comforts, but we cannot recover that which is lost. We will bear a burden of guilt for our deeds and heartbreak for our failure. The loss of lion, leopard, elephant, gorilla and many threatened others, will signal a complete divorce of humanity from its own long history, and a dismal disregard of the future, for ourselves, our children, and our planet.

Since habitat loss is behind nearly all current extinctions, one proposed solution is to set aside 15% of each of the earth's ecosystems as nature preserves, to serve as a "bank" of resources for the future and to provide necessary ecological services. Some experts believe the percentage should be higher.
